Vijay Eswaran is currently serving as the Executive Chairman of QNet Limited, a direct-selling company based in Hong Kong. QNet is part of the QI Group, a multinational conglomerate comprised of a group of businesses having regional offices in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Thailand.
A Malaysian businessman, Eswaran was born in Penang on October 7, 1960. Vijay graduated from the London School of Economics in 1984 with a degree in socio-economics. After graduation, Eswaran remained in Europe for a year, doing odd jobs, where he was introduced to binary-system marketing. This experience prompted him to seek a professional qualification as a Certified Investment Management Analyst and then a MBA from the Southern Illinois University in 1986.
During his studies Vijay was introduced to multilevel marketing, or MLM, and upon his return to Malaysia, when he was contacted by the Cosway Group that wanted him to help start a business, he began to examine MLM more seriously. After his return to Asia in 1998 Eswaran co-founded a MLM company that would grow into the QI Group, a web-based e-commerce conglomerate with interests in travel, telecommunications, media, wellness, training, luxury products and corporate investments.
Eswaran is a respected author and has been invited to speak at management and business seminars like the World Economic Forum and the sixth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in India. “Sphere of Silence,” Vijay’s first book, was published in 2005 and illuminates his personal philosophies and his habit of beginning each day with an hour of silence. Eswaran’s second book, titled “In the Thinking Zone,” a compilation of his thoughts and reflections on life, was published in May 2008. Vijay’s third book, “18 Stepping Stones,” was released in 2010.
Eswaran established the RYTHM Foundation, which the social-responsibility arm of the QI group and the Vijayaratnam Foundation, a charity which was named after his father that works on community programs. Eswaran has received several awards and accolades including being named as one of the areas 48 “Heroes of Philanthropy” by Forbes Asia in July 2011. In February 2013 Eswaran was named one of Forbes Asia’s “50 Richest in Malaysia’s,” coming in at number 25. In 2012 Vijay was presented with the New Global Indian Award in Philanthropy and Business Excellence, awarded in New York City at the Global Indian Business Meet. Vijay is married to former bharatanatyam dancer Umayal Eswaran who serves as the chairperson for the Vijayaratnam Foundation, the Malaysian chapter of RYTHM.
