Tony Petrello is one of the influential leaders. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Nabors Industries. The company is a drilling contractor for natural gas and geothermal. As the CEO, Tony has succeeded in making the company among the largest land drillers globally with over 500 rigs globally.
Early Life And Career
Tony grew up at Newark where he schooled all the way to high school. He was very excellent at Maths which got recognized by Yale University. They sponsored him where he joined the prestigious university. While at it, he met Serge Lang who became his mentor. He met Cynthia, his wife at Yale too.
After graduating from Yale, he enrolled at Harvard Law School where upon graduation, got a job at Baker & McKenzie, a law firm. The year 1986 was a game changer for him as he became the managing partner of the same firm.
How He Got Into Nabors Industries
While at Baker & McKenzie, Nabors was on their clients. Tony’s exemplary work got noticed by Nabors who from then on tried offering him a job which he later on accepted. From 1991, he became the chief operating officer and became one of the board directors. In 2011, he became the chief executive officer till date. He is also the chairman of the executive committee.
Any Recorded Achievement At Nabors?
Tony has had massive achievements at Nabors. In 1993, the company purchased Grace Drilling for $32 million. They acquired Superior Well Services in 2010. Through his business strategies, he has taken the company to greater heights.
His straightforward leadership skills have helped the company record successes over the years. In 2015, he hit the headlines for being one of the top CEOs in the U.S regarding compensation.
Any Philanthropy Work?
For Tony, his philanthropy work has been over the top. He, together with Cynthia Petrello, gave birth to Carena, their daughter who developed some neurological condition. They spent time and money trying to get a cure for their only daughter. They found help at Texas Children’s Hospital which he is on the board of trustees.
He has continuously contributed funds to the hospital and advocates for children with the same condition as their daughter to lead a healthy life like the rest. Together with Cynthia, they donated an estimated $50 million for Jan and Dan Neurological Research Institute which is located at the Texas Children’s Hospital. Tony Petrello is an example of leaders whose hard work has paid off.
